My Royal Air Force Day ()

Patriotism at 900 metres per second is the best kind.

My alarm sounds at 6.45am and I leap out of bed and land in the shower. Moments later I am out, dried and dressed in my best non-issue Disruptive Pattern Material clothing (night urban).

I am an eager beaver this Saturday morning because I have a day of new experiences ahead of me.

Google Watch ()

"But, but... global domination isn't evil!"

OK. You may (or may not - I'm sure you have better things to do with your time) have noticed that this article falls into the category of 'Google Watch', a category that has been sitting under the 'categories' list on the left there for quite some time. I've been meaning to post this blog for a while because I have a dystopic outlook on life, and I can see some worrying trends occurring in front of our eyes that we're all ignoring.

OK. First things, a pet peeve of mine. Google is often stated as having the company motto of "Don't Be Evil". This isn't technically true. The media seem to have paraphrased their original slogan of "You don't have to be evil to make money", and for all I know the company may have adopted the shorter, more PR-friendly version internally by now, but that original one scares teh hell out of me. It's like Ford or General Motors saying "You don't have to drive a gas guzzling, environment destroying car everywhere"... It's true, but it's hardly the concrete foundations of their business principles. And yet we all seem to be watching Google make some startling forays into areas of great concern and sensitivity with our eyes wide shut.

The Human Mind ()

It gets the best of all us.

Apparently we only use about 10% of the capacity of our brain. Thats not a lot if you think what we have achieved as a race. Imagine the results and advances in science if we managed to up it to just 20%. Scary.

Sadly, there are times when we appear to not even use the 10% we do know how to use. Take for example all of thirty minutes ago in my bathroom.

Moving with the Times - Gadgets ()

A article for anyone who is a geek

I have always dabbled in things most people can't be bothered to find out exist, let alone how to do it. I was the person who at 18 was buying Ex Army CCTV equipment, Ex GPO Telephone equipment on Ebay instead of platform shoes, wigs and going out drinking all night.

One of my treasured buys was a dusty old Linesman Handset. It is a big old box containing a old telephone and crocodile clips for clamping onto the telephone lines.

Facebook, Cameras & Taxi Journeys ()

The better side of taxi'ing

Well last night was fun. My second from last job was the main reason for it being a half decent shift. The reason being that for the half an hour trip home from Newcastle to Consett my bus descended into the realms of a Girls Gone Wild Photo Shoot. Taking it in turns to photograph each other both my superbly attractive passengers spent the trip taking, and then reviewing each photo in great detail, and with quite fun commentary.

Besides an issue of a cheap camera, overly bright flash and lack of tan it seemed to produce some good results, and I even managed to do a reasonable job of keeping my eye on the road. This spurred a conversation about the rights to the photos possibly belonging to the taxi drive A.K.A me as I provided the venue. This sadly wasn’t the case, but it was indicated they would end up on Facebook.
